Hermitage of San Pedro

The hermitage of Santa Ana, possibly one of the oldest preserved in Almagro, was built in the 16th century and occupied by the first Conventual Franciscan monks who came to the city.

This is a curb masonry building with a stone plinth and gable roof covered with Arabic tiles.  It has two doorways and in the 18th century it was placed over the main doorway the only decorative motif, a lintelled relief decorated with stylized flower designs called rosettes.

This hermitage, which was destroyed during the Spanish Civil War, used to host the Hermandad de Santiago (Brotherhood of Saint James) since the disappearance of its hermitage in the 19th century.

On July 23, 1983 the new hermitage was inaugurated over the former one. This was building under the guidance of the famous architect of La Mancha, Miguel Fisac. It is remarkable its porch treated with white concrete set in flexible formwork.
